Episode 28 – Hot, Hot Games

Burning discharge

It’s been a hot, hot week! We’ve been feeling the burn both inside and out what with the ever increasing attacks from our lord The Sun and our love of chilli. Also popular games have been happening including Ben’s smoking hot wife Black Ops 2, Paul’s burning desire Little Inferno, and James’ heat related pun involving Ragnarok Odyssey. Combine that with our usual Kickstarters, News and delightful banter and you’ve got yourself a stew.

WARNING: If you were look forward to the new Gaemclub this week I’m sorry to inform you that it has been delayed until next week due to unforeseen circumstances.

An Interview with Obsidian’s Feargus Urquhart

Obsidian_Project_Eternity

The following is a transcript of our interview with Obsidian CEO, Feargus Urquhart. You can listen to the interview in our weekly podcast available here.

Paul: We might as well start from the beginning, what do you say, James?

James: It’s a good a place to start as any.

Paul: So, with Kickstarter, how much did the Kickstarter exceed early expectations of what you thought you’d get? Obviously you thought you’d get a pretty good response with your guys prestige.

Feargus: It’s interesting, a lot of people are like “Oh, you should have known you’d get like 4 million dollars.”, and that’s where I think game developers are maybe a little bit different than the rock stars that sometimes people think we are. Our egos are pretty much kept in check – there’s of course a few of us that they’re not.

James, Paul, Feargus: [Laughs]

When we looked at it, we were of course hoping for a good amount to be able to make a really awesome game, but it was really surprising, and we had to scramble a little bit. We had no idea we were going to hit our goal in… I think it was 27 hours.

Game Club – Dreamweb

Andrew Lloyd Dreamwebber

Having finished up with the excellent Black Mesa, it’s time to move on to our next Game Club. Over the next couple of months we will be playing through the classic PC adventure game, Dreamweb. It’s broken into four parts, and we will focus on one part every fortnight.

Dreamweb is available free to play using ScummVM, and you can grab it here. Make sure to grab the UK version too, because the US version is censored.

The first milestone will be to the end of Part 1, and we will discuss it at the end of the show, in a couple of weeks.
